With the help of author\, knitter\, and physical therapist Carson Demers\, bring improved ergonomics to life in your knitting technique. \nThis class identifies ergonomic risk in knitting and teaches you how to reduce or eliminate it. \nWe’ll examine yarn tensioning techniques\, and all phases of stitch creation and practice optimal methods of making them. \nYou’ll practice ways to… \n\nImprove seated posture.\nBetter understand needle choices and options to find the right fit for you and your project.\nHow to avoid stiffness and injuries caused by disuse.\nEven walk and knit!\n\nLet’s rethink the idea of “swatching” and make it something that is actually fun and useful in ways you’ve probably never imagined. \nNote: Class is appropriate for students who are comfortable with basic knit purl stitches. DESCRIPTION:This program is part of Handwork 2026\, presented by Craft in America \nThis class is appropriate for knitters and crocheters\, spinners\, and any crafter who uses yarn. \nCreating or embellishing fabric is an exercise in energy exchange between your body and the yarn. \nSome yarns will help with this exchange while others are ‘energy vampires’ that require you to give your all! \nIn this class\, you’ll “dissect” a variety of yarns to understand how helpful it will be in sharing the work. \nWe’ll go far beyond what some think is obvious (cotton is “harder” to knit than wool) and dive deeply into the characteristics of plant and animal fibers\, fiber\, yarn structure and construction and how it relates to fiber artists’ hand comfort. \nSpinners will learn how to make a yarn that will be comfortable for them and others to work with. \nUnderstanding the mechanics\, fiber and construction of yarns will help you to select and make yarns that will be comfortable for your hands and arms to work with.
